Hosting is the computer your website lives on, and you rent it by the month. A small business site costs about R100 to R550 a month, and most of the difference is who does the work.
Hosting you manage yourself
xneelo's published plans were R99, R149, R279 and R439 a month when we checked on 5 November 2026, VAT included. Check what each plan includes, because they differ in size and features.
This is good value if you or someone you trust can install the website, apply updates and fix it when an update breaks something. You are the one who has to notice when that happens.
Hosting someone manages for you
The price goes up because a person is responsible. ProCompare gives R500 to R2 000 a month for maintenance plans on top of hosting. Ask what you get for that amount, because the name "managed" means different things at different companies.
Our hosting
- Host, R200 a month: hosting in South Africa, SSL, firewall, security updates, your admin panel, and backups every 2 days kept for 14 days.
- Care, R549 a month: adds an hour of changes done for you, a monthly visitors and enquiries report, uptime alerts and malware scanning.
- Pro, R1 099 a month: adds 3 hours of changes a month and a new town page every quarter.
Paying a year upfront gives you 2 months free. See hosting plans for the details.
What to check on any hosting plan
- How often are backups made, how long are they kept, and who restores them?
- Who applies security updates to the website, and not only to the server?
- Is the server in South Africa? It shortens the distance to your visitors.
- What happens if the site gets hacked? Is the clean-up included?
- Can you move away and take your files with you?
Do I need hosting if I have a website builder?
Wix and similar builders include hosting in their monthly price, so you don't buy it separately. You can't move a site built on one of them to other hosting. If you later want to leave, it has to be rebuilt.
