A .co.za domain costs about R100 to R200 a year. xneelo listed it at R110 a year, for registering and for renewing, when we checked on 5 November 2026. ProCompare gives R100 to R200 a year for a domain name.
What to check before you pay
- The renewal price. Some companies charge a low first year and more after that. Ask for both amounts.
- Whose name it is registered in. It must be your name or your company's name, with an email address you control. If a web designer registers it in their own name, you could struggle to get it back.
- Extras. Email, privacy and protection packages are often added to the cart. A .co.za address doesn't need them to work.
How to choose the name
- Use your business name if it is available. People will search for it.
- Keep it short and easy to say over the phone.
- Avoid hyphens and numbers. They are easy to get wrong when someone types it.
- .co.za tells people and search engines that you are in South Africa. If you only sell here, it is the normal choice.
How to register one
1. Search for the name at a registrar or hosting company.
2. Register it in your business's name, using your own email address.
3. Put the renewal date in your calendar, or turn on automatic renewal. If it lapses, someone else can register your address.
A domain on its own doesn't give you a website. It is the address, and it needs to point at a site on hosting. Here is what hosting costs.
Domains at Paxal
On our monthly plans your .co.za address is included, and it stays yours if you leave. On an outright build it is about R200 a year through us, which covers registering and renewing it for you. You can also register it yourself and we point it at your site.
